Model Number: WBVH5200J2WW Brand: GE Age: 1 - 5 years
I have a front load GE washer that gets out of balance when washing a load of jeans or small bath rugs. It does not do it all the time, but again today the wife was washing a load of jeans and it sounds as if the tub is banging all over the place. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You are going to have to dig into it and see about the support system and springs.
See if the manual is close enough for your model to give you some help. http://appliancejunk.com/ge/washer/31-9135.pdf

ZIDFINK 43,
I checked the shocks on the washer and 3 of them have some spots of grease on them, but the right front does not. I watched the shocks work as a load of throw rugs was in the spin cycle, but the washer only made 1 banging noise and vibrated fairly hard for just a few seconds and then the washer completed the spin cycle. Any other suggestions to check on this would be very much appreciated. Do you think I should change the shocks? Thank you for replying to my post. Mike |

The spots bother me, but watch it closely while it runs and make a decision to replace them if the problem continues or gets worse. You might also change out the suspension springs at the same time as they are not expensive.

Good afternoon SIDFINF43,
Well I changed out the suspension springs and it seemed to help as the washer does not vibrate as bad, but still some vibration. I have another problem going on with this washer. It will begin the spin cycle and the digital number will count down to say 5 minutes and then it stops and reads 11 minutes. I guess it was doing this before and I did not notice it. Any suggestions as to what I should check or do you know what the problem is? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mike |

The problem here is that the folks at GE decided they would take a rather simple machine concept like a washer and make it so incredibly complex (for no reason whatsoever that I can tell) that it is almost impossible to fix. The machine is Exhibit A in the triumph of Engineering over Utility.
If you have a tech out to your house to work on it, he or she will merely start changing out electronic parts until the problem goes away. I can only suggest you see if you can find the tech notes inside the machine (lower service panel probably) and try to do some trouble shooting. Probably your control board, but could be a number of things. I would take off and clean and reseat all of the connections and check all the wiring for fraying, breaks, shorts etc before spending any money, as your movement problems may have caused a problem. Good luck, hope this helps.
