My washer's tub will not balance during spin cycles. The tub moves freely when I try moving it around. The washer works well otherwise. Do I need a new tub or could there be something else wrong?

Yes, that is why I had a repairman look at it. I am not sure he explored all of the possibilities, that is why I am looking further into the situation. I was not at home when the machine was looked at. A friend of mine was here, but didn't know exactly what he did. He just said I need a new tub.

If I were checking the washer I would want to first start at the bottom (or base plate). First make sure that the washer is sitting solid on all four legs and that the legs are properly locked. The next thing I would want to check is to see that the center machine mechanism is moving properly on the base plate. If it’s not the tub will be able to transmit too much vibration to the cabinet. I would also want to check the base plate in the washer itself. One of the last one of those I worked on was cracked and was causing excess vibration. Hope this helps |
