Model Number: MAH3000AWW Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
My Maytag Neptune has run great for years with no problem. Now it stopped on the rinse cycle. I had a repair person check it out and he said it needs a new motor control. Once that was found he stopped his review of the machine. Since it is 9 years old, could there be more items needed? I could order the part and fix it for $200. But I don't know much about washers and am concerned about spending more than the cost of new. How difficult is replacing motor control? and, Any other advice is appreciated. Maybe we should do belt at same time? Thanks,

To richappy - I am not sure if the washer motor is working or not. There is no spin, although it did pump out the remaining water just fine. What else should I check for?
To gearhead1218 - the door seemed to be locking just fine. Once it got to the spin cycle and stopped, the system shut down and unlocked, which allowed me to empty the wet clothes. PS - lost my password so response is delayed. Appreciate your help! Last edited by Tracy CA : 05-06-2008 at 05:07 PM. Reason: Additional direction |

It is very common for the tub bearings to go bad. This added friction load on the motor usually burns out the motor or motor control board.
Before proceeding, I would check the tub bearings for any roughness, sometimes it is hard to tell, but if it made noises when it spun before that's a bad sign. If you fix these bearings yourself, it's not too expensive, just a lot of work.
