The agitator is not working on my Maytag Atlantis MAVT754EWW. The machine spins, fills, drains and seems to work properly otherwise. I think someone may have tried to wash some heavy rugs that may have caused some damage. How can I take it apart (the agitator) to inspect it? It is white plastic with a dark gray plastic screwring on top but I can't figure out how to disassemble.
Thanks.

The top pieces comes off, which leads you to a screw that holds the agitator on. Take it out and the agitator will lift off.

Here is a service manual for machines similar to yours. See if it is close enough to help.
