There's a clanging sound with every revolution, but I have found that when I push on the back of the agitator while I rotate it, the sound goes away. It's like the agitator hits against something inside with every revolution.

This is for a Kenmore 417.42052100

This is showing up as a Frididaire made front loader sold by Sears under the Kenmore brand, so I don't know exactly what you mean by the agitator. I suspect you mean the tub, in which case you want to take off the top and back and examine the support structure including the springs and shocks.
