My washer flashed LD for long drain on the panel. This happens during the rinse cycle just before leaking water all over. There is aslo a whining sound that happens when it is draining during the cycle. Is this the water pump that has gone bad?

It certainly sounds like a leak in the pump, but also check the hoses.

Here is a service manual for your Whirlpool made machine which will help you get into the model.
