Can someone tell me how to sperate the two agitators on this machine . I have it out and need to replace a part between the agitators . The top agitator does not catch. I guess it is the cam that is bad. Is there a special tool needed?

I cannot get your model number to come up but if you have a basic Whirlpool Direct Driver washer the agitator just comes apart. Unfortunately gunk and fabric softener and other stuff sometimes acts to fuse the thing together.

I would find a bucket that will hold it, fill it with the hottest water you can get and let the agitator soak in it until the water cools. Repeat as necessary until you can get the agitator to pull apart.

Be careful when pulling on it, it can let loose and smack you in the face!

Click on this link and you will see an exploded view of your agitator.

Agitator, basket and tub replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL LSB6400LW0 | AppliancePartsPros.com

As long as you removed the 7/16" bolt, which you had to do to get it out it will pull apart. Be careful, it may come loose quickly and smack you in the face.
