During a normal wash cycle our Frigidaire Affinity stopped. The only thing it will display is "53" (the cycle time) and "PAU". If you try to cancel, start, or change any selection it flashes "err" and then goes back to the 53/PAU display. I have tried unplugging it with no change, all hoses and drains appear to be fine. It stopped in the middle of a wash cycle. I have tried to view any error codes by holding appropriate button but can only get just "err" displayed, no code. Could it be the control panel?

You have found the weak spot in microprocessors with diagnostics built in. If the microprocessor fails, the diagnostics cannot be utilized. Here is a service manual, but sounds like you have already access the tech notes and tried to retrieve an error code. My washer is having the same issue. Did you ever replace your control panel and if so, did that solve the issue? Thanks!
