Model Number: WPGT9350C0PL Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
Washer leaves specs of crud and/or grease markings on the clothes. The specs look like dried crumpled wet tree leaves and will come off in the dryer. Hard to get off if hung to dry. Don't know where the grease markings are coming from, or if it could be from the dryer. Have cleaned the upper basket and along the sides of the drum as far as I could reach. Still have original hoses and not showing any inlet filter screen problems. Called GE and they have no idea what the cause would be.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for General Electric WPGT9350C0PL Washer | AppliancePartsPros.com I cannot believe it I actually found some tech info on a GE. Here is a manual http://appliancejunk.com/ge/washer/31-9103.pdf Washer leaves specs of crud and/or grease markings on the clothes. The specs look like dried crumpled wet tree leaves and will come off in the dryer. Hard to get off if hung to dry. Sounds like it is mildew/crud and not grease. Grease will stain the clothes and would not come out just by drying. Stuff is growing somewhere in the washer. Usually this is a front load problem and the clothes smell of mildew but that may depend on what exacty is growing in the unit. If you close the lid between wash loads then this makes the problem worse. Don't know where the grease markings are coming from, or if it could be from the dryer. Would be best to figure out which unit is doing this before proceeding otherwise you could spend a lot of time on the unit which is blameless. Have cleaned the upper basket and along the sides of the drum as far as I could reach. You may have to end up taking the unit apart to find the cause. Still have original hoses and not showing any inlet filter screen problems. Yes, I also doubt it is your water supply as the water inlet filter screen would clog up. Called GE and they have no idea what the cause would be. I also have dealt with GE seems all problems with their units are one offs and they have never heard of the problem with any other unit. If you confirm it is the washer I would try the following: Start a hot water wash cycle and then add a fair amount of bleach. Let it slosh around for a couple minutes and then stop the cycle with the lid down and let it sit for half an hour or so then complete the cycle. This should kill the stuff and with luck it will come loose. You may have to do this several times. You could also try the following product which basically does the same thing and was designed to kill crud/mildew in front load units. Part number: AP4320043 If you do get it cleaned up be sure to leave the lid up when not using the unit.

Just thought I'd let you know that filling the tub with water and bleach, then letting it set for a while helped quite a lot. I've only done this once so far, but it was amazing the amount of crud floating. Is this the only way to handle this or is there something wrong in the method we are washing clothes?
Haven't determined yet where the black grease marks are coming from as it only happens now and then. |
