Hi!

I have a Whirlpool Washer that has been my trusty friend for almost 20 years and have never had any issues. Recently, the basket will not spin. If I spin the basket by hand, and restart the washer, the tub will spin accompanied by a rattling, grinding noise, then it would stop. I can hear the motor hum, but not spin, and I quickly shut it off.

I have replaced the drive couple, the clutch, and now finally the transmission, and the same thing happens.

I found this website, and did a little research and tested the brakes-when the trans is installed, I cannot spin the input shaft counter clockwise, and the tub does not spin. Based on your "sticky" post this leads me to believe it's the brake shoes. However, when I pull the trans, and actually turn the brake shoe cam lever band hand, the brakes release and the tub spins freely. Possibly I compress the lever more than the motor can?

I can't see anything stuck in tub, but I have not removed it (I need to by the spanner).

Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated!! LOL
