The banging may be a suspension problem, or a brake problem but you can try replacing the thrust bearing, which is inexpensive and pretty easy to do.

With respect to the leak you are going to have to take off the front and watch for it. If it is in the center then it is probably time to replace the machine. This service manual will show you how to open it up.
