Kenmore washing machine, not agitating
Hello,
I have a Kenmore top-load, direct drive washing machine that has stopped working. Specifically, the agitator is not functioning. First I replaced the agitator dogs. Secondly, I checked out the coupler; it's fine. In the spin and rinse cycle, I can hear a clicking/grinding sound. Like I said though, the agitator is not turning. Water does drain out though. Any idea what it may be? Clutch? shot transmission? ----------------- After reassembly, the agitator shows that it is working. On the spin cycle though, it is not spinning and you can hear a faint, grinding-like sound. |
does the washer actually spin while making that clicking/grinding noise?
No, it does not spin. The agitator stays still and in the spin cycle, the drum does not spin.
my first thought is the coupler... did you take the motor off the transmission to check it or did you eyeball it with the motor still attached?
yeah, I removed the motor from the tranny, the three pieces are fine
Do the tranny coupler check described in my sticky "replacing direct drive brake shoes". If very hard to turn, you have bad brake shoes, if easy and the clutch housing above the tranny does not move, you have a bad nylon gear in the tranny.
