The main way we diagnose noises is to take off some cabinet pieces and listen to them and determine where they are coming from.

It is likely your pump is the problem, since Maytag re-designed it, and they typically do something like that because there is a problem with the old design. Here is a tech bulletin on the new pump.

http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...TDL-0106-B.pdf

You access the pump by removing the rear service panel.

You should also take off the front panel and listen to the machine to see if the noise is coming from any other source, and to check for leaks or any other water problem.

Inserting a screw driver or putty knife in the gap between the top and the front will releas clips that hold the top down. Flip it up and you can remove the front panel screws.

Here is the service manual for your machine.

and here is the part

Default EASY FIX after much searching!

I had this same problem! A terrible grinding noise during spin cycle and even sounding as if it would get caught-

After removing the front cover and running the spin cycle, I could hear and feel the noise and abnormal movement coming from the pump. I took out the three screws to remove the pump and found a quarter in there! Took it out, put it back together and ALL FIXED- no noise!
