I bought a used washer dryer set from a coworker. We knew the dryer had issues but thought the washer worked fine. It had been sitting for probably 1+ years in the person's basement. I decided to use the washer the other day and it filled fine. When the cycle engaged I had a large puddle on the floor. After finishing the cycle (worked fine except for leak), I ran an empty test cycle and peaked into back of the machine and noticed water steady stream/drip coming from bottom of tub running across transmission onto floor. I've inspected parts schematic and am thinking #21 and #29 and spanner wrench. Wondering if this is common for a machine of this age/situation (sitting unused)? Will leak affect transmission or motor for the future? Can you give link to repair manual if my husband decides to tackle this task?
Thanks in advance! Chelle

I've inspected parts schematic and am thinking #21 and #29 and spanner wrench. I would confirm and double confirm that this is the cause of the leak as they can be a bear to pull apart. Wondering if this is common for a machine of this age/situation (sitting unused)? Not uncommon, seals etc. can dry up over time. Will leak affect transmission or motor for the future? Should not effect the tranny. Even the motor can tolerate some moisture just heat it up with a hair dryer one the leak is repaired Here is a manual which should help http://www.servicematters.com/maytag_library/docs/16010373%20(16001145).pdf |

Thank you for your input. I'm ordering parts and crossing my fingers that my husband can fix it while here over Christmas holiday. He's an Auto/Diesel mechanic so I'm confident in him. Just hope nothing else is wrong...my luck has been awful lately.
