Washer makes terrible racket as it spins
Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
My washer makes a terrible racket as it agitates and then as it begins to spin but quickly settles down. Is this an inexpensive fix or is it time for a new washer? Machine is probably 10 yrs old.

I suspect your transmission is failing, in which case a new or like new used machine is in order.
If you want to dig into it, post your model number and let's see what you have.
