On our GE washer the motor will stop running after maybe 1 minute during both agitating cycle and rinse cycle. It will stay off for a minute or two then repeat. When the machine cycles to fast rinse it will run less than a minute and not start again.

I took the front panel off to watch the motor/pulley/belt, etc. The motor is actually stopping and there is a smell coming from possibly the motor that indicates it may be buring up?

What do you think? Anything else I can check??

Thanks,
Jimbo

Take the belt off and run it. If it still cuts off with the belt off you can be reasonably sure the motor is bad. If the motor runs without the belt the transmission can be getting hard to turn possibly due to leaking grease. Hope this helps!! Clothes Washer Repair Guide
