Exclamation Maytag wont spin
Model Number: 694432981   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: More than 10 years

After our water hose broke and we frantically tried to shut down the washer, it refuses to spin. The water will drain, but no fast spin. If you place the dial near the end of the cycle it will just hum... is that the pump running? or the motor trying to go... I have the entire machine apart, trans and motor are assembled together on the floor so I can test things... the motor will work on low speed and it agitates slowly.. very slowly... but it will not spin... does the switch on the motor control the speeds, is the motor itself bad? I separated the motor and trans and the coupler is fine nubs on both sides... i placed it back together and im ready to test things out.. do I need to get an OHM meter? or is this an easy fix? switch, motor, help help help...

Pull the motor out, and bake in an oven at 200 degrees or less for a few hours. Then see if it will work. If not, it's bad.

Exclamation what

whoa my old lady put a stop to that real quick... lol
isnt it just easier to test it with an ohmmeter? I found the wiring diagram with what its supposed to read, but it looks like a lot of work... the oven idea is not working with the wife even tho i said the washer can get fixed once we know what it needs... what controls the motors two speeds... what kicks it into high speed... the switch on the motor? the motor is working in one direction at least.. its out of the unit and i can see it turning the agitator shaft slowly.. and its spins very slow... it wont kick it into high like it should.
does the motor spin in the opposite direction during the spin cycle? i see it work one direction and agitate, but it wont kick it into high speed. capacitor? switch on motor? transmission gears all look ok...

Hi Coroner,

The motor is bad, no doubt about it.

In order to provide the right part number for the motor I need the compete model number of the washer.

Gene.
