You probably need a clutch replacement, which is not as bad as it sounds. Here is the part which is pretty inexpensive.

Part number: AP3094537
Part number: AP3094537

To change it out, take off your agitator, then take off the cabinet, pump, motor following the directions in this video. Then CAREFULLY lay the machine on its back and take out the three screws that hold in the transmission. The clutch sits on top of the transmission housing.

Two pointers.

1. Do not take off the pump, just tie it off to the left.

2. Getting the cabinet back on takes patience, but push the cabinet as far as it will go under the front lip and you should be fine.
