Default Common belt problem with a (possible?) twist
Model Number: WLSR3000G5WW   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

So yes, the belt replacement, with or without the special GE tool instructions and the videos are great but my issue *might* be a twist on the no spin/no agitate/replace belt topic that's so common.

Correct belt ordered (GE WH01X10302), old belt was stretched and partially shredded though it has only three grooves and the belt as a whole is much more narrow than the new belt., seemed straight-forward. Yes, the new belt is extremely tight and difficult to slowly turn into place (zip tie trick!). Got all of that. I replaced the motor a number of years ago after a flood in the cellar and reused the previous, original belt but here is where the weirdness begins after five or so years.

The new belt has six grooves that match the motor perfectly. The flywheel/drive pulley has no grooves - it's smooth all the way around its surface. The new belt appears to have an additional 1-2 mm of overlap on both the top and bottom when trying to get it onto the drive pulley and turned. Without measuring (difficult with the whole machine tilted to get my hands underneath the tub) it seems as if it's the wrong belt. Not likely - crazy talk, right?

I've managed to slowly inch the belt onto the motor and drive pulley a few times but it will not make it back around another full turn of the tub/drive pulley, regardless of how careful and gentle I am. If I didn't know better, it sorta looks like the motor pulley is not parallel to the drive pulley by 5 mm or more so the belt is ever so slightly angled and it would be no surprise for the machine to toss the belt.

Am I being looney here? I'm trying to decide, based on other part failures, as to whether or not I should pull the motor for sale/reuse and scrap the remainder or to keep at it without spending more money on it and get a used washer from craigslist or similar. $10-$15 at a laundromat has a new (to me) washer paid for in a month or so. Scrap it or keep banging away at it?

Any hints beyond "watch the videos" in order to not have to finally admit defeat?

Thanks for any pointers you may be able to offer.
