Model Number: wcxr1070t2ww Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
I ordered and got a replacement timer from parts pros last July 2009.
Replacement timer only allows hot water to enter machine when cycle knob is set to "cottons regular-'heavy.'" dial position. (temp switch always set to hot wash, cold rinse position.) No hot water is admitted when dial is set to 'medium' or 'light soil' positions. No hot water is admitted when dial is set to any "permanent press" position. I checked wiring diagram and observed that timer plug contacts 4 and 5 need to be closed (current flowing) in order for hot water to be admitted. I disassembled timer and inspected the big wheel with the cams on it. The cam in position to cause the connection between contacts 4 and 5 is only in long enough to work in the "cotton regular-heavy" dial position. I reordered another timer which arrived 11-04-2009. I thought the July timer had a special purpose cam wheel which was shipped to me in error. To be cautious, I did not install today's timer. I checked this timer with an ohm-meter between connector terminals 4 and 5. The ohmmeter only measured zero ohms (current flowing) when cycle dial was in the same position described above. cottons regular-heavy (speculation on my part in the sentence below. ) GE used a timer subcontractor named Kingston. Did someone recently mandate a new "energy saving" cam wheel be used ? I do not wish to have a limit on when I can and can not get hot (also warm) water. thanks Related Models |
