Default Issues with final spin
Model Number: PAVT244AWW   Brand: Maytag   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Here it goes:

Got the washer with the house we purchased last May. Worked great until a couple months ago. Stopped draining completely leaving wet clothes in the bottom at the end. Replaced the water pump (bearing was bad), replaced belt (glazed), replaced thrust bearing (burnt and not allowing the washer to get up to speed). Ran fine for a few loads, then started acting up again. After running it with the close lid switch bypassed, I noticed that everything worked as it should except on the final spin it would not pick up a lot of speed until I released the button then pressed it again to act as if I opened the lid and closed it. Once I did that everything ran okay. The switch is in perfect working order, there are no obstructions in the lines. I have no idea where to go from here.

1st guess - You may have to adjust that thrust bearing on the bottom. I assume you mean you installed the thrust bearing kit, with pulley, cam, 2 washers, bearing etc...?

If you pop the dustcap off you can rotate the pulley by hand and there are marks that tell you if the cam is within adjustment. Turning it one direction should lift the brake off the stator and spin the gearcase too, the other way nothing changes.

In most cases you need only the thin washer but you can use either or both as needed. It's a pain in the neck to get those washers on the e clip on and off. If it went together easily you are either gifted or lucky or both. Usually it requires a few choice words.

So verify that the pointer on the white cam is not rotating past the line on the pulley and that it causes gearcase to turn.

If that is all ok, there are other issues possible: spin speed buttons, timer, etc. But I'd start with the cam since it was recently handled and it can be seen just by leaning it back.

You are correct, it was the kit. The cam is in adjustment. Was able to get the thicker washer on (I think it's the .62 washer). I would say I got pretty lucky with this repair as it did go smoothly for me.

Good job. Many times even getting the thin one in is a challenge, depends on how fresh the brakes are too.
