I have a Maytag Centennial Commercial Technology top loader and it is making a grinding noise when agitating. It seems to spin fine so I thought the clutch was ok. I replaced the agitating dogs, mainly because they were cheap and I was hoping it might fix it. I also took the gear case out and tested it and it didn't sound as if it was the problem. I would like help in diagnosing the issue.

When you say you tested the gear case, can you expand on that? How did you run that test?
Secondly take the pump off and see if something is stuck inside it or if perhaps the impeller and shaft are ajar.
I would imagine if you took off the gear case that you separated the motor from it, if so is the coupler ok?
Again when you took out the gear case you had to remove the agitator, nothing was stuck underneath it?
