This washer won't agitate. It fills, spins, drains, and everything else works great, just no agitate. So, waterlevel switch didn't test exactly right so I replaced it. Still no agitate. BUT, I thought I might have it wired wrong (there are 3 wires on the water level switch), so I tried different combinations. One combination did agitate (but at times when it should have been filling!). So, this confirmed to me that the agitation system does work (transmission, gears, etc.). And, the lid switch appears to work; when it's spinning if I lift the lid, it stops.

If I manually cycle the timer to the beginning of a cycle, it starts to fill, then stops filling at the end of the fill cycle. Next is an agitate cycle, and there nothing happens. If I manually forward the time to the spin cycle, that works and the water drains. And if I lift the lid, the spin stops, but when I close the lid it resumes.

So, water level pressure switch is new and works, transmission works, agitator gears are ok, lid switch works, fill and drain valves etc. work. The only thing not working is agitation, and it does NOTHING during agitation (no noises, etc.).

Any ideas?

Here are your parts, includes a wiring diagram
Replacement parts for MAYTAG LAT8035AAE | AppliancePartsPros.com

So, water level pressure switch is new and works
I would check this.
What you know is that the normally closed contacts (7/15) are closed and that they open when the washer is full.
What you do not know is if the normally open contacts (7/16) close when the unit is full.
If you have a meter. let the unit fill, unplug the unit and measure across the normally open contacts, should be 0 ohms.
Remember to remove a wire from either 7 or 16, this prevents you from reading an alternate/parallel circuit path.

Thanks for the reply. When I went to my daughters house (it is her washer) I did npt have my meter handy, so I just installed the part. I will check that when I get back home this week.

But, since it seems likely that this brand new part is working right, is there anything else that could likely cause it to do everything but agitate? I should be prepared for more than one failure mode when I get there.

I cannot think of anything because you had it agitating which indicates the timer, motor etc is OK. So you really will not be able to tell until you troubleshoot further.

Hmmm. Ok, a recap thinking this through. Timer turns, door switch works, but when the timer is on agitate cycle, nothing. No noise, no trying to turn or slipping. Acts like it's just not getting the signal to agitate. Then, when timer advances to Spin, it spins and drains, refills, then again nothing during agitate cycle. Pressure switch replaced. And if I switch around wires on the pressure switch I find a combination that makes it agitate (during what would be the fill cycle). But when wired properly, nothing. It really seems like an electrical problem, since it doesn't appear to be even trying to agitate. Is there another switch, like lid check switch, or the imbalance switch or something?
