I started the washer this morning and I don't know if the door didn't close correctly or what, but now the washer won't unlock to open. And if I push start, it will begin, but then makes a buzzing noise and quits while putting an error on the display panel that says "do". I don't know what the code stands for, or if I should manually open the door and try again.

Is there a reset button or anything on this washer? I did unplug it and plug it back in and also tried it on a different cycles, but nothing will get it going.

Your machine is an updated Maytag Neptune, and they put quite a bit of diagnostic programming into it, I assume because they had quite a lot of problems to diagnose.

I would first open the door, then shut it down for a while, start it up and see if it returns to normal. You can manually release the door lock by taking off the dispenser assebly holder (bezel) and pulling on the door lock release cord you will find inside.

Here is a service manual which will take you through the diagnostics. Note that your machine is covered in the MAH5500B section near the end.

My Neptune washer model #MAH5500B is probably 8-10 years old. It started to wash a load of laundry as normal and then stopped shortly after it began and flashed "do" and then "FL" and the door would not unlock and open. I was able open it with the manual release. Based on what I have been able to read in the forums, it sounds like I need a new main circuit board and/or possibly a latch assembly. Also, I saw some discussion about a wax motor ?? associated with the latch assembly that causes this problem and fries the circuit board but how can I tell if have one of these wax motors ?

I think you are ok on the wax motor issue, but it is really time to replace your machine. While your model was updated from the earlier Neptunes, it is still an extremely unreliable machine and the fact that you got 8 to 10 years use from it means you are way ahead.

New machines are being heavily discounted, so get rid of that one and treat yourself to a new washer. Trust me, you will be a much happier person.

Your probably right but have already ordered the parts. So I need to know which part to replace and test first. If I do the latch assembly first, will the old circuit board fry the new latch if it is the problem or do the opposite and change out the circuit board first and use the old latch? Or replace them both at the same time? Basically, how can I determine if both parts are necessary without frying the unnecessary part ?

It is not likely that the board will fry the lock assembly, but with these Neptune models anything is possible, and I think everything that can go wrong with a Neptune has gone wrong.

Sorry not to be able to give much help here, remember the Neptune just about bankrupted Maytag.
