My 12 year old Whirlpool Duet washing machine's water temperature is acting up. Recently, I opened the machine to add an extra item of clothing to my COLD wash cycle and found that the water was very hot. I have not seen any "F" codes which maybe have more to do with the heating of the water, which is not my problem.

Since then, I ran another COLD cycle and checked the water temp by removing the dispenser and putting my hand in to feel the temp of the water entering the tub. It changed in a matter of seconds from hot, to medium etc. I determined that the solution maybe is a "water temp sensor" which is affordable and easy to replace. However, I am just a housewife who likes to tinker and am not sure if I am overlooking a more complex answer which may involve a control panel or something that is difficult and costly.
This machine has been reliable but it is showing its wear noisy, etc. I ran a diagnostic test and it passed with flying colors. UserPostedImage Any comments are appreciated. Thanks

The temp sensor would seem to be the logical choice and I don't see an indication that anything else is the problem. I suggest you try replacing it and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't and you buy from this site you can return it, and if it does it probably means the board is bad and you might want to consider replacing the machine.
