I have a GE combo washer dryer that has started spinning really slowly so the clothes come out wet. How do I start troubleshooting? What should I be checking?

I am going to provide you with a link to the Frigidaire site that has a service manual for your machine.

Yes, I know you have a GE. Actually you do not. These were made by Frigidaire for GE and are almost entirely identical to the model sold under the Frigidaire brand.

After some further troubleshooting, everything appears to work fine without anything in the washer. By defeating the lid switch, it spins at a high speed although there seems to be some noise. Thought that was probably just because it was not loaded.

BUT when loaded (and not overloaded), the tub spins very slowly and the clothes come out wet. Is there a belt that's slipping? Or transmission that defective? What should I be looking at next?

Operate it with the front panel off and with a full load and see if you can determine what is happening with the belt and transmission, that is, if the belt is slipping or the transmission is not turning fast enough.

Thanks. I'm digging into this afternoon. This morning it completely stopped working. Filled but then won't run at all.

So the latest is that it filled and then nothing. No motor sound, no pump, nothing. The timer also doesn't seem to be advancing. Is it the timer that's bad?

That sounds logical, and if you buy the new timer from this site and it does not fix the problem you can return it. And use the troubleshooting notes in the service manual.

So I bypassed the lid switch and everything works. Has anyone ever seen a lid switch fail progressively, not all at once?
