I just replaced the transmission in our washing machine because some of the gears were going out. After it was installed the issue was resolved, but a new issue surfaced. When I went to test the washer to run through a cycle it gets stuck in the drain cycle. After the water has emptied it continued to drain for another 4-5 minutes after the water had already drained. If I push the dial in to shut it off and pull it back out then it moves on to the next cycle. What tells the washing machine that it has drained all of the water to move it to the next cycle. I tried this in heavy wash mode and also in the quick wash mode and it does the same thing.

After the agitation stops, the washer should go into drain, without spinning, for a full 2 minutes. After the 2 minute drain period, the drive motor should stop for a few seconds and then start again at which point it should start spinning while continuing to drain. If there is no pause after the 2 minute drain, then the timer is faulty. If there is a pause but it still won't spin then the transmission may be faulty. It is the pause of the motor that causes the transmission to shift out of neutral so that it can spin when the motor starts again.
