We have a GE Select 7-Cycle 2-Spin washer, model S2000D2WW. It recently ruined a load of whites with an oily mess. The dry cleaner wouldn't touch the clothes and said they were beyond help. After some googling research, I found that the tub seal might be the problem. I disassembled things. The underside of the agitator was a mess, but cleanable. The agitator coupling was messier. I might just replace that. I got down to the tub seal and removed it. The hole was a bit greasy and larger when compared to the replacement seal. There was not oil/grease under the tub seal. (pix attached) Should I consider replacing the Transmission & Brake Assembly? Other than the oily mess in the tub, the washer was working fine. There's no apparent leakage under the machine that I can see. I am wondering about how much play there should be in the T&B's central shaft that the agitator coupling attaches to. Is some back & forth play normal or should it be firm. The seal here does appear worn and probably where things leaked from (see attached pix). Does the seal need replaced, or the whole T&B? Thanks in advance. Jaeson jaesonk attached the following image(s):

I always recommend replacing the transmission/brake assembly and seals in this situation as it is possibly damaged and if so that means another tear down and doing the work all over again. And yes I would replace the coupling, not an expensive part.
Sounds like you lost a lot of transmission fluid, that never bodes well.
