GE Washer making banging noise. Thought it was the sagging apron problem but on inspection the supports are not sagging or bent. When the washer is unloaded there is a 13/16 space between the bottom of the leg & platform assembly and the base plate. When washer has a small load the leg & platform touches the base. Is it just a matter of replacing the 4 shocks or is there something else that has gone wrong. Unit is 5 years old. Any thoughts?? Thanks.

Operate it with the front panel off and see if you can determine the problem. If you cannot try replacing the support straps as they are inexpensive and might fix the problem.
