I have had this washer less than 2 years. It is a HE top load mid-price Whirlpool - seemed like a solid choice, but it is not working now. During the cycle the lid lock light will start blinking red. It will stop working completely during the spin portion of the cycle, leaving my clothes soaking wet. For a while, I could turn the knob to "Drain/Spin" and restart the machine, and that would work. Now, even with that, it doesn't drain and spin properly, if at all. My repairman told me he thought I needed a $200 controller - not under warranty anymore. Called Whirlpool and they confirmed that based on my description, and they were not interested in discounting the controller at all. I checked this forum and found posts with similar problems, and those posts suggested trying a new shift actuator for $45, which sounds a whole lot better. Just wanted some confirmation that it is likely to be the shift actuator, not the control panel. Worth fixing for $45, not for $200+. Thanks!
