Model has a SMALL/LARGE water setting (knob) on L/H of control panel. When set to SMALL only a couple of gallons of water enter drum, then washer starts and grinds up the clothes in the agitator because of not enough water in drum. The LARGE setting fills the drum properly, but sometimes a SMALL setting would be preferable due to a lighter load....:)

Try replacing the water level switch and hose to it from the drum, Part number: AP4568145
That should fix things.

Thankyou, Sidfink43. I repaired my daughter's dish washer, and it had a defective level sensor, although of somewhat different design. I looked in the parts listings for one right off, but didn't find or went right past the level sensor in the listings. You are undoubtedly correct, and I thank you very much for the knowledge and attention.
