I would like to remove the top load door on my washer in order to clean the years of crud off of the door and the door closing area. The door appears to rotate on 2 plastic pins and I'm afraid of breaking them if I use too much force.

The lid is held in place with little plastic ball bearings. The risk here is that in prying off the lid you lose one or both of the things. So the worse that can happen is you have to spend a couple of bucks replacing them.

sidfink43,

Okay, so If I use something like a wide blade screwdriver to gently pry the door up near the bearing I should be okay? so long as I try my best to not let the bearing go shooting off into another dimension!

Reinstall would be a matter of positioning the door on one bearing and then a sharp top to pop the other side in??

thanks for the input.

I usually put in one bearing, then have the door at an angle to put in the other bearing and slowly work the door back towards the square position.

This may take a few tries but as long as the bearing don't pop out and get lost you should have no difficulty.

sudfink43,

worked pretty much as you said. I used a LARGE flat blade screwdriver to lever the lid up with my free hand over the bearing that dropped into the tub. I was able to get the second bearing without difficulty.

To re-install, I put the left bearing in place and held it with the lid at about a 30 degree angle. I put the second bearing in the depression in the machine's top and then held it there with the lid. A little bit of pressure down and toward the rear of the machine and it snapped in.

Lid and top haven't been clean in years!!! Now it should be no problem.

thanks,

Marc

Great, that's how you do it. Glad it worked out and thanks for the update.
