my washer will fill normally on any size load, then occasionally will shut off after it fills with water. after restarting it then seems to work fine. Tonight it took two restarts before it worked. Could this be the timer or control board?

This model has a diagnostic light built into the inverter on the motor. Take off the cabinet and see if there is a blinking light. Here is a link to a page that will tell you how to interpret the codes. The first thing to do is to try a reset, sometimes that is all that is needed.
