My Whirlpool Ultimate Care washer quit agitating and spinning. It fills and drains fine. I've checked or replaced all the easy/inexpensive stuff: clutch assembly, drive coupler, drive block, agitator dogs and lid switch. The APP parts attendant says it probably needs a neutral drain transmission. Is there a way I can check the operation of this to be more certain before I order this expensive part?

Rotate the transmission input shaft by hand using one half of the motor coupler. Rotating CCW should cause the agitator to go back and forth, CW should cause the basket to rotate. Just watch the clutch hub when going CW as it should be rotating.
