Can't I order just the pump without the assembly? I ordered the pump only from another site that had the same part number (I thought) and the pump will not fit in the housing.

I suggest you call APP on Monday (those of us who reply on this site are volunteers and do not work in the parts operations of this site) and chat with them. The diagram does say it is a new design, but it should still fit. APP may be able to get you the old one that will make a better fit.
