I have a Maytag Neptune washer that came with the house I purchased last year. It has always worked fine until recently when my wife mentioned a sock had become stuck in the seal area while it was running. On quick glance, it appears the tub and drum have shifted back into the unit by about an inch or inch and a half. After pulling the unit apart my first thought was that the rear struts were going out in it. The washer has always had the occasional bang and does seem to vibrate around a bit. However, when I went to remove the struts I noticed they seem to have a awful lot of strength left to them and are quite hard to compress. Are they still the most likely culprit? I should mention that the front support springs are in place, attached and not 'sprung' so to speak. Thanks in advance for any help.
