Our Whirlpool washer quit mid way through the cycle last night, and now sits full of water and clothes. When I try to start the washer, it just makes a humming noise like it's getting power, but nothing happens. So the controls and timer etc seem to be working. Maybe the motor burned out and it's time to replace the washer? Please help as I know nothing about washers. Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably something stuck in the drain pump. Remove the cabinet, bypass the lid switch, unclip and pull drain pump away from motor shaft and see if motor will now run in wash cycle.

Follow up....thanks for the advice. Pulled the pump off the washer, looked inside and found the problem.......small kid's sock stuck in the pump. Pulled it out with a needle nose pliers, put everything back together, and it's as good as new again. I wish all the projects were this easy. Thanks again!
