A few months ago my washer started making a rough noise when it was spinning. I kept meaning to get to troubleshooting it, and now I have to :) Today, I noticed that it had not drained the last wash load. (It occasionally does this). So I put it on a "drain and spin" cycle and pressed start. Instead of starting to spin with a slightly rough noise, the motor seemed to engage with an abrasive, loud, grinding noise. Here is a video showing the noise (turn up the volume): Whirlpool WTW5640XW0 Grinding noise - YouTubeAnyone know what this could be? Here is the model sticker, by the way: Thanks in advance! -Antun

I did a bit more tinkering and research, and I think I've found what triggers thel oud "grinding" noise: If I rotate the center of the tub by hand, it makes the noise. See video: Whirlool turning wheel - YouTubeThis is different from the bad-bearing-like noise the washer used to make. I still don't know how to fix it though.

Another update: I tightened the nut in the middle of the tub, and now it seems to be working!
I think my bearings might be bad, since that noise is still there.
