I have a Maytag washer. Recently replaced motor and thrust bearing unit. Washer makes loud growling noise during the spin cycle. Increases intensity with speed. As soon as basket stops, noise goes away. If I hold basket during spin cycle, no growling noise. Which bearing to replace or is it the transmission?

When replacing the thrust bearing, rotated the pulley to move the transmission. Noise seemed to come from underside of tub where the tub met the driveline. Noise did not seem to come from the lower bearing unit.

Please help.

Noises are very hard for us to diagnose on line because we really need to be there to hear it.

I am thinking that it is possible the brakes are not fully releasing. Be careful checking them out as they may be under a heavy spring tension.
