Model Number: GHW9100LW2   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Good Evening Fella's. I need a little help diagnosing a front load Whirlpool Duet. The customer was getting a suds code and then 4 minutes later the F2 code would come up. I checked the filter, and it was not that dirty, so I replace the Water Pump. I ran it with no soap, and it got to the first rince cycle, and the suds code came up and 4 minutes later the F2 code came up. So I then rechecked the filter, and took the drain hose off, and took it out side and blew it out clean. I reinstalled the drain hose, filled the washer up with water, and put the timer on a drain and spin cycle, and the canceled the cycle, and the water drained out of the pump like a champ. I then started a normal cycle, with no soap, and I got to the first rince cycle, and the suds code came up, and 4 minutes later the F2 code. I have no idea what is wrong with this. Hi Tom

The Whirlpool Duet has to be about the most frustrating washer I or anyone else has ever encountered. The thing fails constantly, on page 2 of the Washer Forum are 3 posts about the Duet, which is far more than there should be given number of units out there.

I have only encountered this problem one time along with some other problems and I replaced both the CCU and the Water Pressure Switch but I am thinking the Water Pressure Switch was all I needed to replace to fix the F02 problem part. I think your pressure switch is sensing foam when there isn't any and is acting accordingly.

Below is the language from the service manual on this machine which explains why I think the pressure switch might be the problem. The manual of course doesn't say anything about replacing the water pressure switch, which is further evidence of why replacing it might do the job, since I do not think anyone at Whirlpool who worked on the manual ever fixed a thing in his or her life.

During the Drain Routine, the water level is checked continuously. Normal drain will occur until the pressure switch senses no water in the wash tub and there is no foam (suds). The drain pump will operate an additional 15 seconds after the pressure switch reports no water or foam.

If the drain routine operates for four (4) minutes and the pressure switch senses any foam (suds) in the wash tub, the Central Control Unit will start the “Kill-Foam” Routine. (See description of this
Routine below.) After the Kill-foam Routine is concluded, the Drain Routine will restart. If, after four (4) minutes the pressure switch still senses foam in the wash tub, the Central Control Unit will go into Failure Mode. The digital display will show, F02.

Hope this helps, and shouldn't there be an industry wide practice of charging double when working on a Duet, just for the aggravation.

Thanks for the great info. I was wondering what sensed the suds, because whatever it was, had to be the problem. I had a feeling the CCU had an attachment to this problem, but at 51 years old my gut is usually right, and I did not feel the CCU would do it. I will replace the pressure switch, and see if that does it. Again, thanks for the response!!!!!! I will let you know. Tom

Well a new water pump, a new CCU, and a new pressure switch, and I blew out the drain hose, and still the F2 error code. I have lost my patience with this one, my a#$, and I have no idea what is wrong with this one. Oh well, it doesn't happen offen, just enought to make you Humble!!! Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Darn, it seems like one of those things should have done the job. I am just about at a loss for any more ideas. I would say call Whirlpool but they know less about this model than we do.

The final thing I would replace is the wiring harness. Maybe there is some kinda short in the wires between the CCU and the Pressure switch or a bad connector.

That's all I got.

I appreciate the effort. I told the customer that I am at the end of my line. It always seems like the nicest people have the problems. I lost about $200.00, and that is not wehat bothers me at all. It is, how sweet and patient the customer was. She even offered me the washer for free if I wanted it. Thanks for help. Tom

Hello Kayak

Just saw this one when hunting for something else.

Looks like the suds switch should be closed with no suds.

I would try shorting the suds detect lines at the CCU.
If it runs OK you probably have a wire /connection problem between the pressure switch and CCU.
Should be easy enough to jiggery pokery a couple wires.

Could even run without it as long as they are careful with the amount of detergent used or run two rinses all the time.

Just a thought!!
