Washer will not spin dry during normal wash cycle. If dialed manually to extra rinse cycle it will spin. I replaced timer. Still not working. HELP!

Replacing the timer should have fixed it, since it appears to work during the extra rinse cycle and that means there is no mechanical difficulties. It could be that clutch is bad, but that wouldn't explain why it does ok during the extra rinse cycle. Try this. Turn the timer to the rinse cycle, engage the lid switch and see if the spin will start if you give it a push (be very careful not to get you hand or arm caught). If it will then try replacing the clutch, this part here. Part number: AP3094537

After more intimate time with my wife's washer I have isolated the problem. Note: This washer is a "auto load sensing w/triple spray tech." Whirlpool washer goes through the regular wash, rinse, and spin cycles fine w/good speed when need be. The brake/clutch seems to be working fine while looking w/flashlight under the loading lid cracked open slightly so not to trigger safety switch. After the spin cycle the machine stops, adds 1 gal. of water, and shuts off! If extra rinse selected, the spin at end of rinse cycle completes as normal and clothes are spun dry. The same conditions exist for old and new timer. Can I receive my money back from the new timer if returned? What is causing this strange condition? Fishbob

It is caused by a faulty load sense switch. Does model number end with ESVW0 or ESVW1?
