Whirlpool Duet Washer - Motor Control Unit (MCU)

Part # 8182706

Remove the front lower panel. Tape off the Micro Switch on the lower right.

I'm using a FLUKE voltage meter.
With the front of the Motor Control Unit open, test the AC Voltage on the motor connector - 5 Pins - Black wires on mine.
+ Positive probe on the pin, - negative probe on the washer frame.

Pin HI MED LOW Stop F 06
# Speed Speed Speed Fail

1 173 149 132 41 41
2 173 154 132 41 41
3 173 149 132 41 41
4 122 124 124 124 122
5 122 124 124 124 122

When the washer is operating properly and the motor is running you will see voltages similar to columns 2 thru 4

When there is a failure (F 06) the voltages will be as in the last column.
Usually after the washer cycles OK at least once and things heat up.

My symptoms:
On my unit flashed the time remaining three different times as it waited for the motor to spin and the Tachometer readings to be sent. Then it beeped and signaled F 06 with the voltages shown. With no voltage the motor was never going to turn. While the unit was flashing the voltages remained as in the last column.

Ordered a new MCU ----- We shall see....................

Next Day ...... Installed the new MCU. Washer runs as it should. Old MCU has a problem. A Very Good Repair. Wifey is happy.
Shipping was extremely fast. Ordered at 3:30 pm and was at my door at
11:30 am the next day, with regular shipping.
