Model Number: WLW2500AALWH   Brand: Hotpoint   Age: More than 10 years

We have had a problem of water level overfill [no low or medium ] control for a long time and lived with that. But last night the new fault started, the machine overflowed and the water did not stop until I shut the supplies off. any ideas?I stopped the control knob, and unplugged the electricity to no avail.

Sounds like one of the water valves is shot since killing power to it did not shut it off.

We have had a problem of water level overfill [no low or medium ] control for a long time and lived with that.

Could be this is related to the water valve but seems that it was too consistent to be a sticking valve, so this would be a long shot.
More likely it is the water level switch or the tubing going from the bottom of the tub to the switch.

Here is a good link with basic washer repair help

Thank you for your reply. In the time after I posted the question andread some other similar fault I took the water valve off and found the screen was out of place and upon further investigation of the valve found a small stone/mineral deposit under the seat of the cold water inlet valve. that cured the flowing water issue. Also I tested the level switch and determined that it will shut off the water. I have tried an adjustment on it to try to lower the level when it is in the low switch mode ,some suceess, but not all I wanted. thanks again for the info.
