My 7 yr old front load washer has sounded like a jet engine taking off during the spin cycle. it happened gradually, so I wasn't alarmed. Now suddenly, it is making a horrible knocking noise during the spin cycle and the drum "clunks around" as it washes. I checked around and found advice that it may be a rear bearing and may have damaged the drum. Does this sound right to you and is it reasonable to do it ourselves or should we replace the unit?

Thank you!

Check to see if the pulley is loose. Remove rear cover plate and wiggle pulley. If remove retaining screw add red loctite and re tighten to keep it from loosening again.
