Our washer started making a banging noise and has continued to do this and has finally just stopped We found a broken spring underneath the washer. We were wondering is this a hard part to replace. We plan to buy a new washer in December but would like to fix this until then.

That should be a fairly easy repair, although you may have to replace both springs. However the broken springs may have caused other damage, like in the support structure so my advice is to accelerate the purchase of a replacement and save the money you would have spent on parts.

If you do decide to replace the spring here is a link to a service manual for your model. This is a Frigidaire machine sold under the Kenmore brand name by Sears.
