Model Number: 20722990 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
My washer stops the cycle before the last spin cycle. I opened it up, checked with my ohm meter that the door switch is functioning and checked to see if the motor coupling needs replacing. All parts check out. Pumped the water out and reset it. Watch as it filled, agitated, went through the first spin cycle, drained, rinsed, agitated again. Then it stopped with the water still in it.

It sounds like you may have an intermittent problem with the lid switch. The next time it stops by pass the lid switch and if that starts it up, replace the lid switch. Here is a site that will take you through the process.
Kenmore top loader blues (SublimeMasterJW's Appliance Advice) If this is not the problem see if the problem exists for all cycles. Ultimately you may need a timer but check the lid switch first.
