Tear apart your unit and look for where the water is coming from we can't diagnose your problem with a leak we're not psychic and reading your mind. Could be anything for all we know.......Hoses, bellows, cracked tub etc etc. Break down your unit and start looking for calcium trails or leaks....Or call a repairman.

I should have made my question more specific. Is there a bearing and seal assembly on the main shaft that could have failed?

Yeah most of all units have a bearing and some form of seal or gasket.........Your unit though if it was leaking from that area you might have to replace the rotor, stator and hall sensor, hub and possibly outer tub as well as bearing kit if it isn't already installed on your tub also if it leaked on your motor and the overall cost of it you'd be better off buying a new one perhaps depending on leak damage.
