We have a Kenmore Washing machine that doesn't seem to be cleaning. It appears to work correctly, but when I observe the agitator, it makes small partial turns, but never moves completely around, rather always returning to where it started. Is this working correctly? The clothes that are slightly out of the water never seem to move or be pulled down, which is what made me curious if the agitator is moving correctly.

With the washer off reach in and attempt to turn the top of the agitator by hand. If it will turn both ways freely the agitator dogs are striped out. This page will describe how to change them Washer Agitator Repair Guide
