Default Washer won't fill on rinse cycle unless between 2 settings
Model Number: 11024952300   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Hello all, I have a very similar problem to a thread already answered on this forum... but with a bit more info. Here is the previous thread:

No rinse cycle

HOWEVER, I do want to note that:

1) The washer WILL NOT fill for regular washing on cold/cold

2) The rinse cycle WILL fill if I manually hold the temperature control switch between 2 settings on the Automatic temperature control side. The water that comes out is very HOT (On the NON- automatic temperature control....it will partially fill for rinse if the temperature is set to warm/warm, but will shut off partway through. It does not fill at all for rinse if on cold/cold... warm/cold ... or any setting inbetween

During rinse, once the water level has filled to the correct level (I have to hold the switch in this in-between position the whole time)... the filling stops, the agitator moves, and the machine continues its cycle through to completion.

3) I have jumped the lid switch to no avail.

4) there is no evidence of arcing like in the referenced thread

5) Reading wiring diagrams is Greek to me

Is it the timer, or a problem with the cold water supply/valve? If it was a water valve problem, shouldn't the machine still complete the rinse cycle if the temperature was set to warm/warm?

Looking at the price of a timer online ($150 + shipping/handling)... if it is the timer, is it even worth replacing considering I can grab another used washer off of Craigslist for $200... (The price I paid for this one 1 year ago)

I thank you for help this appliance repair noob.

Sounds like the cold water inlet valve is faulty. Have you checked the inlet screen for clogging? Checked that you have good cold water pressure? If ok, swap the power connections at the water inlet solenoids. This video will show you how to remove the cabinet. Swap wiring connections between hot and cold and try cold/cold setting again. Do you now get hot water? Can you provide a clear high resolution photo of the wiring diagram and another of the timer chart? they should be on the inside of the back panel when you take the cabinet off.

Eric

Thanks Eric.

I did everything you said and switched the wiring connections. Hot water did come out when it was set to cold/cold. It must be the water inlet valve. I will attach images you requested.

Should I order part Whirlpool 285805 Water Inlet Valve - AppliancePartsPros.com

thank you for your help,

jamie

Yes, looks like you need a new water inlet valve assembly. Thanks for the photo's. Let us know how it works out.

Default Did I order the wrong part?

Part got here today! Great shipping time appliancepartspros!

I ordered the item I had posted earlier:
Whirlpool 285805 Water Inlet Valve - AppliancePartsPros.com

When I went to install it.... dismay! The old valve I needed to remove had 2 wires attached to the bottom of it and a different structure. I could not figure out how to remove the section the the wires attached to.... the interface with the water valve almost seemed glued. Even if I pried it apart I don't think that portion would just slip on over the new valve. I'm assuming i ordered the wrong part.

#1) what are those two wires
#2) What do I need to do?

thank you for the help,

Yes, you ordered the wrong part. The two wires attach to the thermistor which is an integral part of the valve assembly. The auto temp control uses the thermistor to determine what the water temperature is. Here is the correct part you need.

Default Can I use the part I have

Thank you Eric. I disconnected the old valve today. Is it possible to just cap/electrical tape the ends of the two thermistor wires and just use teh part I ordered? I never use the automatic temperature control. Or would not having the wires connected create some kind of short in teh entire system?

This would save me $20 and more importantly I could finally do some laundry tonight.

You could do that however, the warm/warm setting on the non-atc portion of the temp control actually uses the atc for the warm rinse. There is no danger in leaving the wires disconnected.
