I have watched a number of videos on the subject and have just replaced the coupling. I put everything back on without too much trouble, ran the washer through a complete cycle, and noticed a very strong smell of burning rubber. What did I do wrong - what is the problem? Thanks!

Hard to say, but I think you had better go back in and see if there is a problem with the installation, like the rubber coupling is bent or rubbing. Check the pump too.

Check the pump too. I did that - took it all apart, reinstalled it, and the second time it ran with no problems. I could clearly see that the rubber coupling was rubbing, but couldn't tell where. For the reinstall, I made double sure that the plastic pieces were seated properly - otherwise I don't know what I did in the reinstall to make a difference. Thanks for the reply!
